Six-year-old Lamjung boy behind bars as mom fails to post bail

BESHISHAHAR: A six-year-old child is living behind bars for nearly a month after his mother, a human trafficking suspect, failed to post bail for her release, in Beshishahar of Lamjung district.

The Lamjung District Court on August 24 had ordered that the woman pay Rs 20,000 bail to escape the custody till the final verdict on her case. However, upon failure to do so because of her poor economic background, the Court sent her to the District Prison.

She was compelled to take her son also with her as no one was there at her home to take care of him.

Meanwhile, the woman expressed her worry about the child's education.

Laws prohibit authorities to keep minors under the age of 16 behind bars.

Meanwhile, Bishnu Kumari Lamichinne, Chief of the District Women and Children's office, said she was closely following the case and would take a needful action.
