KATHMANDU, APRIL 4

The sixth Summit of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) commenced today at Hotel Shangri-La in Bangkok, Thailand.

Heads of state and government from BIMSTEC member countries gathered for an official photo session before entering into formal discussions on the Summit's agenda.

Thailand's Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, as host of the event, welcomed the visiting delegations.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is representing Nepal at the Summit. He, along with leaders from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, and Sri Lanka, is scheduled to address the gathering following a ceremonial signing of the BIMSTEC Maritime Transport Cooperation agreement.

This marks the first official visit of a Nepali Prime Minister to Thailand since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

Later in the day, PM Oli and the Nepali delegation will attend a welcome dinner hosted by the Nepali Embassy in Bangkok.
