SMM-called indefinite bandh throws life out of gear in Parsa

Birgunj, February 5:

The Samyukta Madhesi Morcha (SMM) called indefinite Parsa bandh, demanding action against superintendent of police Yogeshwor Romkhami, affected normal life here today.

Transport service, markets, industries and educational institutions based in the district were closed; however, some vehicles plied under police escort.

Cadres of Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum (MJF) and Sadbhawana Party burnt tyres in different places, including at Gandak, Powerhouse, Pratimachowk, Ghantaghar, Maisthan and Adarshanagar of Birgunj.

A meeting of nine parties, including the five ruling parties, saying that the police killed three persons in the name of a clash at Pragatinagar in Birgunj on Friday had demanded suspending Romkhami within 24 hours yesterday and the SMM called an indefinite bandh.

They also demanded compensation to victims’ kin, announcing the dead as martyrs and taking action against the guilty and forming a high level panel to probe the incident.

Meanwhile, police headquarters had sent a task force to investigate the incident. The police headquarters has sent two members of the task force under the command of SSP Dipak Ranjit and DSP D Karna.

Bishwonath Kurmi, who is grandfather of killed Manoj Kurmi of Haripurbirta-7, said that the police have been forcing him to settle the issue.

Meanwhile, the Rastriya Prajatantra Party District Committee has said it will stage a phase-wise agitation with the demand of action against the guilty from Wednesday.
