Snow-fed ponds to irrigate fields

District Agriculture Development Office, Bajura has built snow-fed ponds to collect water to irrigate fields across the VDCs in Bajura district.

According DADO, as many as 50 snow-fed ponds have been set up in the drought-hit areas that include the 12 VDCs β€” Sappata, Wai, Jukot, Gotri, Jaganath, Pandusain β€” in the district.

Ram Krishna Shrestha, chief of District Agriculture Development Office, said that the snow-fed ponds have been established with the idea of watering mushroom and walnut farms.

Shrestha informed that his office had offered Rs 15,000 to farmer groups for constructing the snow ponds.

β€œThe plants will be irrigated even during droughts with the water collected,” said Top Bishwokarma, an agriculture technician, adding that the office has established snow-fed ponds in the VDCs where there was no water left for irrigation of fields.
