Snowfall affects lives in Far-West hilly regions

DHANGADHI: Snowfall has affected the daily life of locals following a change in the weather in various parts of far-western hilly regions.

The snowfall that started since Monday afternoon continued throughout Tuesday.

Heavy snowfall has occurred in various locations of Baitadi district, including Anarkholi, Khodpe, and Satbanjh along Dashrathchand Highway and Khodpe-Bajhang-Jayprithivi Highway, according to Police Inspector Gindra Bogati at Area Police Office, Patan.

Similarly, Saipal Rural Municipality, Surma Rural Municipality, Chhabispathibhera Rural Municipality, and upper regions of Bangal Municipality in Bajhang district were hit by the snowfall.

Various locations including Api, Rapla, Ghusa, Khadeshori, Chingru, Byas, Tinker of Darchula district also witnessed snowfall.

Likewise, the natural phenomenon has affected life in the high mountains of Doti district. Snow has fully covered the settlements in upper mountain regions, district headquarters Silgadhi, Swanda, Machhintola, Goladeu, and Jhingrana.

The major tourist destination of the far-west region, Khaptad, has been covered under two feet of snow making the patrolling of Khaptad National Park difficult for the Nepal Army personnel deployed there, informed Dipayal based far-western division of Nepal Army.

Majority of areas in Bajura have been hit by snowfall, since Monday, which started from the first week of Magh. Continuous rainfall and snowfall have especially affected elderly people, children and those suffering from various ailments in the district.

Patients at Kolti-based Primary Health Centre who have been referred to the District Hospital are unable to make the journey, informed Dr Roopchandra Bishwakarma, chief at Bajura District Health Office.

Furthermore, transportation has been partially obstructed creating a scarcity of daily consumables in the rural areas of the district, Himali Rural Municipality chair Govinda Malla said.
