Snowfall hits campaign
Taplejung, April 5:
Political leaders and cadres, who were heading for villages lying in northern Taplejung district to launch poll campaigns, had to call off their journey and return to the district headquarters due to a heavy snowfall.
They said they had to abort their journey as they found that their paths were covered
with snow.
Tasi Sherpa of Olangchungola VDC said over phone that snow has covered Ghunsa, Yangma, Olangchungola and Tokpegola. He said villagers could not be assembled to discuss the polls due to the snowfall.
We were compelled to return to the district headquarters when we could not cross paths covered with snow, Nepali Congress candidate for Taplejung constituency no. 2 Pratap Prakas Hanggam said.
CPN-UML constituency no. 2 candidate Dambardhwoju Tumhamphe said they were compelled to shelve election campaigns in the hilly villages due to the snowfall. “Notwithstanding the difficult geographical terrain, we were planning to visit the villages and launch poll campaigns. However, we had to abort our plan due to the snowfall,” Tamhamphe said.
