67-year-old Yeon-Sang Chung last believed to be in Khumbu in early January
KATHMANDU, JANUARY 25
A South Korean national has been reported missing after trekking in the Everest (Khumbu) region, according to information provided by the Trekking Agencies' Association of Nepal (TAAN).
The missing person has been identified as Yeon-Sang Chung, 67, who is believed to have trekked in the Khumbu area between December 23, 2025, and January 6, 2026. He was scheduled to return to South Korea on January 10, but failed to do so, raising concerns about his whereabouts.
TAAN said only limited details are available regarding Chung's travel arrangements, including whether he trekked independently or through a registered trekking agency with a licensed guide. He is approximately 165 cm tall.
According to TAAN, trekking guides, tourism workers, lodge operators and local residents in the Everest region have been requested to remain alert and share any information that could help locate the missing trekker.
