Spanish mountaineer dies while descending from Chukyima Go in Dolakha

DOLAKHA: A Spanish mountaineer has died while descending from Chukyima Go mountain in Dolakha district, on Saturday, police said.

District Police Office, Dolakaha, identified the deceased climber as Luis Felipe Valverde Guzman, 44, of Spain.

"Guzman lost his life after falling into a gorge while descending after successfully climbing the 6,258-metre mountain in the district, yesterday morning," DPO said.

Another mountaineer, who was also descending after scaling the same mountain, was rescued alive, police shared.

Two helicopters were used to transport the dead and the rescued climbers to Charikot, district headquarters, today, according to Police Inspector Ramesh Bohara.

Meanwhile, the body has been sent to Maharajgunj-based Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) for an autopsy, police said.

Earlier, a team of four persons including two guides and two mountaineers had left to climb Chukyima Go mountain, in Dolakha district, on September 29.
