Special income generation programme for quake survivors
PARBAT: A special income generation programme has begun for quake survivor farmers of Parbat district.
The programme began from eight VDCs in mid-south Parbat including Kurgha, Thanamaoula, Bhangara, Balkot, Bhoksingh, Lungkhu, Pakhapani and Hosranggadi VDCs.
Under the project, 2,615 families will receive Rs. 15,000 each to run goat breeding and vegetable farming. A total of Rs. 39.5 million has been allocated for the purpose, according to programme director of the Heifer International Dr Tirtha Raj Regmi.
The programme is aimed at increasing the morale of the farmers who have been affected by the April 25 quake. The amount given will be later collected and saved through cooperatives, and used in future income generating programmes.
The programme will be implemented through various local partner organisations.
Heifer has also been running the entrepreneurship consolidation programme in eight VDCs of the district.
