Starving Dailekh villagers surviving on raw bananas, nettle

Dailekh, September 9:

With food shortage hitting them hard, many villagers in Dailekh district have been living on raw bananas.

The villagers in remote Salleri, Naumule, Dwari, Kalika and Baluwatar Village Development Committees have been surviving by eating raw bananas, corn and nettle due to the acute shortage of food, according to Shashiram Dhatro, a resident of Dwari Village Development Committee-1.

The Dailekh District Agriculture Office said that starvation has been looming in the areas, with many parts of the far-western region facing drought for a long time.

The Poverty Alleviation Fund has attempted to solve the problem of food shortage, to no avail.
