State must fund education of deprived children: leader Nepal

KATHMANDU: Nepal Communist Party (NCP) leader and former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal remarked that the state must provide incentives to children from deprived communities for their higher and technical education.

During a programme organised by the Light House Foundation of Nepal in the capital city on Wednesday, former Prime Minister Nepal reminded that government has initiated the social security programme taking into account the economically backward and under-served people and community.

On the occasion, Secretary at the National Women's Commission, Anil Kumar Thakur, lauded the role the Foundation played for the education of orphans and children from minority communities. Cooperation from various sides could be extended to such pious deed, he added.

Noted Actor Rajesh Hamal also praised the activities carried out by the Foundation, saying that the Foundation had created a platform for children facing tremendous social and economic challenges to show their talents.

Former chairman of the Central Children Welfare Committee Dilliram Giri, European Union representative Shiva Bhandari, founding chairman of the Foundation Raju Sundas, and others said that the state needs to augment investment on children's education.
