Statute protested in Saptari,Mahottari

Rajbiraj/Janakpur, September 20

As the country waited to welcome the new constitution, protests were held in various districts of the Tarai region where ‘Black Day’ was observed today.

In Rajbiraj, the protest programme involved black flags, black dress, black bends on the hands and heads and chanting of slogans. Black flags were hoisted in villages as well as city areas even as some people there lit up their houses to celebrate the promulgation of the new constitution of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal.

United Democratic Madhesi Front cadres hoisted black flags in the chowks of Rajbiraj. Black flags also went up along the Postal Highway at Jamuni Madhepura, Malekpur, Pathagargada and Arnaha of the district. The agitators also hoisted black flags along the road sections of Bhardaha, Kanchanpur, Mahuli, Rupani, Shambhunath, Kathauna, Kalyanpur, Kusaha, Kadamahaalong the East-West Highway. Black flags were also hoisted at government offices.

Madhesi Front Coordinator Dinesh Yadav of Saptari said they hoisted black flags at District Administration Office, Appellate Court, District Court, Postal Office, Forest, Land Revenue, Irrigation, Small and Cottage Industry and Telecom Authority, among other offices of the district. UDMF cadres also put up black flags in the offices of the big thee parties and houses of lawmakers.

Journalists also protested with black bands and banners on their hands in Saptari today. Likewise, local FM stations played mournful tunes today and they will do the same tomorrow from 7:00pm to 7:15pm for those who lost their lives in the protest.

Social networks of the Madhesi Community also blackened their profiles.

In Mahottari, a motorcycle rally with black flags was taken out against the statute. They demonstrated with black bands on their arms and faces and passed through the villages of Jaleshwor, Banaita, Ramgopalpur, Molhuwabagewa, Damhimadai, Gaushala, Aaurahi and other places of the district.
