Stop misusing Press sign: FNJ

Kathmandu, April 13:

The Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) today expressed concern over the continued misuse of the “Press” sign during demonstrations in the country.

“The Press sign should be used only by the media and authorities of media institutions. We request the users of the sign to display the names of their institutions and carry their identity cards,” the FNJ said in a press release.

Anti-press elements are misusing the sign, the FNJ said, adding it has been monitoring the misuse. The FNJ also urged all not to exert pressure on journalists.

In a separate press release issued today, the FNJ condemned the inhuman attacks on peaceful demonstrators at various places.

“Home minister Kamal Thapa and state minister for information Shrish Samsher provoked security forces to use excessive force on demonstrators,” the FNJ said.

“We believe an environment has been created, in which those army and police personnel who misuse powers can well be taken to the international criminal tribunal.”
