Jackal strays into Rautahat settlements, bites 28 people
RAUTAHAT: As many as 28 people were injured after a wild jackal attacked them in two localities of Garuda Municipality in Rautahat district on Tuesday.
According to the District Police Office, 23 of the victims are from Mohammadpur and five from Pipra Pokhariya.
The wild canine bit the residents of Mohammadpur while they had come outside their houses in the morning to go toilet or morning walk.
The injured were taken to the District Hospital in Gaur for treatment with bite injuries in different body parts.
The victims include one child, 12 women and 13 men.
Since the hospital did not have enough rabies vaccine for 28 people, 15 of them who were bitten above their neck region have been referred to the Sukraraj Tropical Hospital in Kathmandu for treatment, according to the hospital chief Nandeshwar Jaysawal.
Rabies immunoglobulin vaccine should be administered on them within 72 hours of the bite, Dr Jayasawal informed.
The hospital has requested anti-rabies shots from the Hetaunda-based Regional Medical Store after it was flooded with the cases today.
One of the victims sustained injuries on one of his eyes so he has been referred to the Tilganga Eye Hospital in Kathmandu.
It has been learned that those referred to Kathmandu hospitals would leave Gaur on night buses tonight.
