Strike on in Radio Birgunj

Birgunj, May 29:

The agitating staffers of Radio Birgunj gave continuity to the relay hunger strike today as well.

As the management of the radio station paid no heed to their 11-point demand, the staffers

embarked on a relay hunger strike on May 16, warning that they will launch fresh protests if their demands were not met within 24 hours.

Coordinator of the Birgunj radio staffers’ union, Sudarshan Singh, who has been taking part in the strike, said, the agitation would continue until their demands were met.

Blaming the news coordinator of hatching conspiracy against the agitation, the staffers have been demanding that the news coordinator resign. A number of organisations, including FNJ (Parsa), seven parties and labour unions have expressed solidarity with the agitation.

The 15-day ultimatum issued by the Maoist-affiliated All-Nepal Trade Union Federation to the radio management for addressing the staffers demand expired today.
