Struggle is to achieve goals: PM

KATHMANDU:The politburo meeting of the Unified CPN-Maoist today discussed the political report tabled by party chairman and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal about the present political developments.

In today’s meeting, several leaders, including Mohan Baidhya, Netra Bikram Chand, Ram Bahadur Thapa and Krishna Bahadur Mahara aired their views on the chairman’s report.

“All the politburo members urged the party leadership not to join the government until the President corrects his move,” party spokesperson Dina Nath Sharma said, after the meeting. “Our main agenda is to establish civilian supremacy and not the government formation,” he added.

In his political report, Dahal stated that struggle was the only way to achieve the goals set by the party, according to a party leader. “Parties like the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML surrendered before the army and the foreign forces,” the leader quoted Dahal’s political report.

In his report, Dahal also said the Nepali Congress was trying to dismantle the process of integrating the PLA fighters into the security organisations. “The sovereignty of the nation is in peril. We have to lead a nationalist movement in the days to come,” the report stated. Dahal also criticised the UML for its dual role in the army chief issue.

The meeting also decided to adopt wait and watch approach. “The nation is witnessing rapid political development. We are watching the activities of political parties and their future strategies. We will devise our future strategy accordingly,” politburo member Lila Mani Pokharel said.

The party decided to indefinitely postpone its politburo meeting, as the NC and the UML intensify talks to form a new coalition. The meeting mainly focussed on the President’s move on the army chief case and activating the interim constitution.
