Student unions, DAO strike deal; bandh called off

Birgunj, August 11:

tudent organisations withdrew their strike this evening after reaching an agreement with the local administration at District Administration Office in Parsa.

The organisations had enforced the strike since 3:30 pm yesterday after transport workers beat some students in course of an argument over transport fare discount.

According to Manohar Shah of the Nepal Students’ Union, the student organisations withdrew the strike after Parsa chief district officer Bhola Prasad Shivakoti agreed to arrest and punish the guilty according to the law by 5 pm tomorrow and compensate the injured students. Students had closed Birgunj bazaar from 3:30 pm yesterday.

The strike crippled life in Birgunj as students brought traffic to a halt and enforced closure of educational institutions.

In course of a demonstration today, they vandalised a van in Aadarshanagar and two buses at New Bus Park.
