Students attend classes in open

GAITHAT: Teaching-learning activities at Mahendra Basic School in Thanaguan of Tiple Rural Municipality-4 are being conducted under the open sky for the last one month after wind swept away the school's roof and damaged its building in Udayapur district.

Students at the school are compelled to take classes in the open as there is no other option. Teacher Milan Tamang of the school said it was getting increasingly difficult for them to conduct classes in the open during monsoon season.

The school has a total of 250 students enrolled up to grade four. "We have no option but to shut the school when it rains," Tamang said.

"We are taking classes of grade one to four under the open sky in the school's premises. Due to financial constraints, unfortunately, we are not able to repair the damaged roofs to resume normal classes," Tamang lamented.

Locals shared that they often requested Tiple Rural Municipality to replace the damaged roofs of the school, but to no avail.

The school, which was established in 1961, is currently in a dilapidated state.
