Students have been facing problems completing their school education due to lack of secondary level school in Ward No 6 of Manthali Municipality in Ramechhap.

Hulakdanda Basic Level School in the local level runs classes up to Grade VIII. There is no other school nearby. The students are compelled to quit their studies after Grade VIII due to lack of secondary schools. They have to walk three hours every day to reach the school if they want to continue their studies in Ramechhap Bazaar. One of the oldest school in the district Hulakdanda Basic Level School could not run classes up to Grade X due to lack of building and other infrastructure.

The school was established in 1961. Head teacher at the school Khadga Bahadur Thapa said they were compelled to operate classes in a dilapidated building.

He said the students went to other schools to continue their studies after completion of Grade VIII from the school.

There are as 95 students from Nursery to Grade VIII at the school. Thapa added that most of the students had quit their studies after Grade VIII. He said some students went to Khurkot of Sindhuli and some went to Ramechhap Bazaar for further studies.

Kamal Tamang, a local, said students were compelled to give up their studies due to lack of secondary school in their locality.

The school could not operate secondary level education even though the locals frequently urged the people's representatives and the local level to take initiative to run secondary classes in the school nearby.

Meanwhile, District Education Coordination Unit, Chief Bharat Bhattarai said the school lacked students and infrastructure for secondary level education. He added that permission would be given to the school to operate secondary level education if the school managed infrastructure and sufficient number of students to run secondary classes.
