A 41-member expedition team consisting of students from Nepal Mountain Academy departed for Gyaji Khang (7074m) Research Expedition - 2024, this morning. This expedition is part of the course requirement of Bachelor of Mountaineering Studies (BMS) eight semesters.
The team of twenty nine students from third batch (COHORT:2019-2023) of NMA is led by International Federation of Mountain Guide Association (IFMGA) certified Mountain Guides Pasang Kaji Sherpa, Gelje Sherpa & Jamling Bhote along with the supervision of Field Supervisor (Campus Chief) Shiva Prasad Jaishi.
Climbing guide and support crew from Seven Summit Treks Pvt. Ltd will be providing technical support and will also accompany the team. During the expedition, the students will conduct research in several topics based on high altitude.
This marks the third academic mountaineering research expedition above 7000m organized by the Nepal Mountain Academy for the BMS students, showcasing their commitment to experiential learning and exploration. In this autumn these students, when they were in seventh semester, had successfully ascended Thorong peak (6144m) as their course work. Last year a group of students from the academy summited Himlung himal (7126m). The Academy's endeavor has been to produce managerial level human resources in the mountaineering and mountain tourism field. Seven Summit Treks Pvt. Ltd. will be managing the expedition's logistics, ensuring our team's safety and comfort throughout their journey, according to the statement issued by the Nepal Mountain Academy.
Nepal Mountain Academy, operating under the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Government of Nepal, is a prominent and a solo educational institution offering academic courses of mountaineering and mountain tourism affiliated with the Faculty of Management and the Institute of Science and Technology (IoST) at Tribhuvan University.
Since its establishment in 2002, it has established itself as a leading institution in Nepal's mountain tourism educational landscape, the NMA said.
