Students to boycott films featuring Manisha
Kathmandu, January 27:
The eight student unions today said that they would boycott all films featuring bollywood actress Manisha Koirala as the latter had campaigned for the “undemocratic municipal polls.”
The student unions have also urged the cinema hall owners across the country not to run any film featuring Koirala.
The eight student unions, as a part of their campaign against the municipal polls, have decided to burn mock ballot boxes all over the country on January 28, All Nepal National Free Students’ Union (ANNFSU), said today. The students are also scheduled to take out rallies against the municipal elections on January 30 and to hoist black flags at all educational institution in the country on February 1 to mark the day as a “Black Day”. The student unions have also decided to socially boycott all the candidates of the municipal elections.
Meanwhile, a report from Narayangarh said that the Nepal Students’ Union (NSU), Chitwan, issuing an appeal today has warned not to show the Manisha’s films or sell her posters because she was involved in the municipal poll activities. The appeal issued by Ramesh Prasad Adhikari, the NSU district vice president said: “According to the decision of Central Students’ Unified Protesting Committee, teachers, artistes or anyone who is involved in the poll activities will be boycotted socially. Therefore, Manisha’s films are prohibited as she was involved in the publicity of municipal polls.” The appeal also warned of actions if their appeal was disregarded.
