Students vandalise HSEC office

BIRATNAGAR: A group of irate students today vandalised Biratnagar branch of the Higher Secondary Education Council demanding that the Council reshuffle the exam centres as per their convenience.

The students had padlocked the office after destroying the furniture there.

However, police later opened the office.

The infuriated students also obstructed traffic movement in Bargacchi area. A clash ensued between the students and police while the latter tried to resume traffic on the highway. Assistant police Inspector Kaji Bahadur Basnet was injured in the clash. Two students have been detained.

The students are demanding to rearrange the exam centres. Class 11 and 12 exams are scheduled to begin from April 29.

Harisaran Wagle, chief of the Council, said property worth Rs. 30,000 was destroyed in the incident. Timely arrival of police at the office saved some other furniture and equipment, said Wagle

The Council earlier had published a notice saying it could not change the exam centres. “I had informed Council’s central office about the students’ demand. But we cannot shift the exam centres against the rule,’’ said Wagle. A police team led by an ASI has

been deployed at

the Council office to provide security.
