The Commission for the Investigation of the Abuse of Authority arrested a sub-engineer and one more person over corruption charge in Kavre today.

Following a tip-off about a sub-engineer receiving bribe during construction of a school building, a CIAA team held sub-engineer Dhanbir Bhagat of Education Development and Coordination Unit Kavre along with his attendant Niraj Kumar Chaudhary, a retired sub-engineer, from his office.

CIAA spokesperson Pradip Koirala said the arrests were made following complaint that the duo had received Rs 1.5 lakh in bribe to ‘manage documents’ for construction of the school building.

A staffer at the Education Department in Sanothimi, Bhagat had been sent here to oversee the reconstruction of schools in Mandandeupur Municipality and Mahabharat RM.

“As per our investigation, Bhagat is pretty much into receiving illicit payments through Chaudhary,” said a member of the CIAA team, adding that in the latest case, Bhagat had got the kickback deposited at a bank in Kathmandu yesterday.
