Sub-overseer shot dead

Janakpur, June 26:

A sub-overseer of Janakpur Municipality was shot dead by a gang in Janakpur last night. Jeetendra Shah, a resident of Rautahat district, was killed at around 8:45 pm, Police said.

“Luv Kumar Sharma of Mahottari, who lives in a rented room in the same house where we live, killed my husband,” the victim’s wife claimed.

“Sharma was pressuring us to vacate the house,” she said, adding that two other persons were with Sharma.

Shah and Sharma were living in the house of Ram Ekwal Sharma at Bashiya village in Janakpurdham.

“All three persons involved in the incident have been absconding and a hunt for them is underway,” police said, adding, the body has been taken to the Janakpur zonal hospital for post-mortem.

Meanwhile, staffers of Janakpur Municipality closed the office today to protest the killing. They asked the government to declare Shah a martyr, provide compensation to his family and take stern action against the guilty.

Meanwhile, a woman was killed and five persons injured when a tractor loaded with stones turned turtle in Siraha last night.
