Succour for Bajura woman with post-natal complications

Bajura, July 12

A day after this daily reported about a new mother who was in critical condition after delivery in Simalkot, Bajura, a philanthropist from Kaski has provided financial assistance for her treatment.

The Himalayan Times in yesterday’s issue had carried a news report about Binita Sunar, 24, of Simalkot in Barhabisa village development committee-9, Bajura, whose post-natal condition had become critical due to profuse bleeding.

The-24-year-old had given birth to a baby girl with intestines sticking out of her body at Barhabisa Health Post on Monday. The newborn had however died at the hospital itself as the family could not rush the baby to the referred health facility for advanced health care.

After reading the news, Basudha Gurung, a permanent resident of Bhadaura village development committee, Kaski, who is now living in Kathmandu, provided Rs 10,000 as support.

“I provided the money as I realised that a life could be saved with my small help,” Gurung told THT over phone.

“The doctor at the health post had suggested that both the mother and the baby be taken to a well-equipped health facility for treatment, citing their critical condition, but we had to lose the baby as we couldn’t take her to the referred place for want of money,” bemoaned the bereaved father Samir Sunar.

Meanwhile, the mother has been taken to Bayalpata Hospital in Achham with the charity fund.

According to Assistant Health Worker Satis Nepali of Barhabisa Health Post, the financial support has been a great help to the poor family. “In fact, for a family that is barely scraping by, paying thousands for treatment is out of the question. So the help has been phenomenal,” he said.

After learning that the woman was battling for life for want of money, Gurung had right away deposited the money in the bank account of THT Bajura reporter, Prakash Singh. They fund was later handed over to Binita’s family through Assistant Nursing Midwife Laxmi Giri of Barhabisa Health Post.

Similarly, District Health Office of Bajura too has pledged 5,000 rupees to the woman’s family. It is important to note that Bajura is among the many districts where pregnant women have lost their lives for want of timely treatment and lack of fund.

A case in point, just a week ago, an expecting mother of Badhu VDC had to lose her life as she couldn’t be rushed to a well-equipped hospital for treatment in time.
