Sudden drop in mercury affects life in Tarai

Life has badly been affected for the last two days due to snowfall following excessive cold in the hilly regions of mid-Tarai districts.

Locals in the areas could not come out of their houses due to the bone-chilling cold, cold wave and thick fog for the past some days. The locals said that they felt colder after the mercury went down today morning.

People in Parsa, Bara, Rautahat, Sarlahi, Mahottari and Dhunusha have been facing hard time due to the cold. Locals said they were compelled to warm themselves sitting around fires. Elderly people and children have been affected the most. People are confined inside their houses due to the cold wave.

Vehicular movements have also reduced due to the cold. The number of service seekers in government offices is also said to be less. Staffers spent the time sitting around fires as service seekers did not reach the office. The staffers said that less number of service seekers had reached offices due to the excessive cold.

Acting Chief District Officer Ganesh Bahadur Adhikari said that his office has been preparing to manage the firewood to distribute in areas. He added that the meeting with district disaster rescue committee has decided to manage firewood, among other materials, to distribute the locals to protect them from excessive cold.
