Sugarcane farmers refuse to sell their produce

Sugarcane farmers in Rautahat have resorted to selling their products to sugar mills in other districts after Shreeram Sugar Mills in Garuda, Rautahat, failed to pay overdue bills.
Sugarcane farmers in Rautahat have started selling their produce to Reliance Sugar Mills in Bara district, and Annapurna Sugar Mills and Indushankar Sugar Mills in Sarlahi as Shreeram Sugar Mills failed to clear dues of 230 million rupees accumulated over the last three years to the farmers.
Sugarcane farms are spread over around 46,00 hectares of land in Rautahat.
Farmer Umesh Das of Fatuwa stated firmly that they will not sell their produce to Shreeram Mills unless their overdue charges are cleared.
Chairperson of the Sugarcane Producers’ Association Rautahat Ashok Yadav said that farmers had decided not to sell sugarcane to Shreeram Mills.
