Sujata says she can resolve Tarai crisis

Kathmandu, August 12:

A central committee member of the Nepali Congress, Sujata Koirala, today said she would solve the problems of Madhesh within three days if she were given the authority to hold talks with the Madheshi factions.

“Other issues should be sorted out after the Constituent Assembly polls,” she said at an interaction organised here today by the Madhesh Development Journalists’ Association. She reiterated that Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula should be ousted.

She said Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Ram Chandra Poudel could not hold talks appropriately. “Girija Babu and I talked to Upendra Yadav few days ago as they (government talks team) either failed to arrive at a conclusion or they were reluctant and tried to extend the talks,” she added.

She said there is something hidden behind the delay in talks. “They (the government team) refused to meet Jwala Singh and Goit,” she added.

Minister Poudel, however, said the government is ready to provide security to the agitating factions of the Tarai if they are ready for talks. “If we can’t hold the CA polls, guns will rule the nation,” he warned, adding: “This is not a simple matter.”

Poudel said some issues remain to be settled with the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum. He said he has asked the MJF to solve the problems in a concerted manner at a time when many such groups are arising.
