KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 18

Sagar Bishwakarma Sunar, whose height is three feet and seven inches, on Thursday announced that he wanted to scale the world's highest peak aiming to be the shortest man to climb Mt Everest in upcoming spring season.

Organising a press meet here, Sunar, a permanent resident of Kaski district, said that he would attempt to climb Mt Everest demanding climate justice in the spring season as he had already climbed Ramdung peak (5,925m) in Rolwaling region to prepare for the Everest summit. "By scaling Everest, I want to show the world that nothing is impossible if there is determination and perseverance," Sunar, 28, said.

He also appealed all to support him in the biggest quest of his life. "It is these sorts of attitudes, rather than any mental of physical impairment that creates barriers for people with disabilities."

Renowned climber as well as multiple Guinness World Records holder Pemba Dorje Sherpa said that Sunar, a differently-abled climber, was dedicated and courageous so that he could climb Mt Everest.

Sunar along with Sherpa had climbed Ramdung peak last autumn season. While climbing Ramdung peak, the team led by lawyer Bishnu Bhusal also drew world leaders' attention towards the impact of climate change that has adversely been affecting ecosystem and local communities, he added.

Himalayan Shepherd Eco Trek and Expedition will organise Everest expedition for Sunar, according to Sherpa. "If Sunar scales Mt Everest, he would set the world record for shortest man to climb Everest," Sherpa added.

According to organiser, Sunar also wants to establish a foundation to support people who physically challenged and discriminated by the society.

High court justice Shekhar Poudel, lawyer Bishnu Bhusal, political analyst Jhalak Subedi and Everest summiteer civil servant Gyanendra Kumar Shrestha among others wished him success and vowed to support his bid.
