Kedia kidnapping: Preliminary probe points to Indian gang

BIRGUNJ: Police investigating into the abduction of industrialist Suresh Kedia said they suspected that some Indian gang kidnapped the entrepreneur at gunpoint.

One of the executive directors of Kedia Organisation, industrialist Kedia was abducted by an armed gang from Bariyarpur of Bara district on Thursday evening.

The gang of three to four persons had shot at and seriously injured his driver Shyam Sah Kanu before kidnapping the entrepreneur, police said.

SSP Narayan Singh Khadka, Chief of the Narayani Zonal Police Office, which is carrying out the investigation, said police had been coordinating with Indian security agencies for the probe.

"We have been coordinating with our counterparts," he told THT Online, "But, no information has been received about whereabouts of the abductee so far."

An Indian Police official based in Motihari of Bihar said his post had directed subordinate bodies to carry out search operations to nab the suspects, an Indian journalist Bijaya Giri informed.

Meanwhile, the victim's driver Kanu, who was injured after receiving a bullet yesterday, is undergoing treatment at a Chitwan-based health facility.

The abducted industrialist is the nephew of prominent industrialist late Shankar Kedia and brother of Sadbhawana Party lawmaker Bimal Kumar Kedia.

Meanwhile, local traders of Birgunj commented that the abductors could have been nabbed by now had police taken initiatives on time.

Police had reached the incident site around half an hour after the incident.

Industrialists and traders of the region said they were terrified after the incident.
