Surkhet-1 seat for UML

Surkhet, April 21:

CPN-UML candidate Kamala Sharma has been elected to the constituent assembly held on April 19 in Surkhet’s Constituency No 1.

She secured 18,804 votes while her nearest rival, Lal Bahadur Ghale of the Nepali Congress received 12,335 votes.

The Nepali Congress candidate was followed by Maoist candidate Khadak Bahadur Gharti, who got 10,878 votes.

The CPN-UML had picked Kamala as a candidate after her husband and CA polls candidate Rishi Prasad Sharma was murdered on April 8.

She is the only woman candidate to win on behalf of the CPN-UML in the Constituent Assembly elections under the first-past-the post system.
