Sushil blames monarchy for instability
Kathmandu, September 15:
Vice-president of the NC Sushil Koirala today said that the royal place is mainly to blame for the unstable political situation of the country.
Addressing an interaction organised here today by the Civic Movement for Democracy and Peace, he said that the parties, despite minor misunderstandings, do remember that the abolition of monarchy and restructuring of the state were the mandate of the Jana Andolan II.
Maoist leader Dr Baburam Bhattarai warned that his party’s decision to launch street protests should not be taken in a light manner.
“We also do not want to upset the peace process, but it does not mean that we have to support all ritual developments, which have put more emphasis on form than on the spirit,” he said.
He said that there is the possibility of suppression from the army if political changes are sought letting the army remain in the same position.
CPN-UML general secretary MK Nepal said that no party can retreat from the decision of holding the constituent assembly elections on November 22.
Hridayesh Tripathi of the NSP-Anandidevi said that there is no use holding the elections in the present situation, as the government is not ready to accept the gravity of the issues the Madhesis and the Janajatis are raising. General secretary of the NC-D Bimalendra Nidhi said lots of things must be done after the announcement of a republic.
Amik Sherchan of the Jana Morcha Nepal said that eight parties should declare Nepal a republic to save the country from further “accidents”. Civil society leader Dr Devendra Ran Panday urged the leaders to urgently call a meeting of the eight parties to solve the political problem.
