Sushil Koirala hauls up Maoists for ‘insulting’ army
Banke, February 15:
Acting president of Nepali Congress Sushil Koirala today accused the Maoists of insulting and displeasing the Nepal Army.
He also said the Maoists were troubling the national army, despite the Chief of Army Staff repeatedly assuring that the NC stands for safeguarding the interests of the nation and the people.
Addressing a press meet organised by the district chapter of Nepal Press Union in Nepalgunj today, Koirala said it was irresponsible for the Prime Minister to give direction to the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) combatants. “How could a PM give directions to both the NA and the PLA?” he wondered.
He also said the nation could plunge into civil war if the Maoists continued to interfere different sectors of the country, including army, judiciary and industries. “The PM sometimes warns of seizing power and sometimes talks of sacrificing in Baluwatar. Such statements from the responsible person could terrorise people,” he said. He also slammed the PM for creating panic among people instead of maintaining law and order in the country by drafting the constitution at the earliest. “Though the government is supposed to focus on drafting the new constitution, it is promoting killing, violence and terror,” he alleged. He also asked the Maoist-led government to focus on the restoration of peace in the country and ensure the security of the people.
Saying that the NC was for the government to function till its full term, Koirala said, “No one else, but the activities of the Maoists will topple the government.”
