Sushil Koirala says Nepali Congress will extend constructive support to govt

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) President and main opposition leader of the Parliament Sushil Koirala said his party would extend constructive support to the incumbent government.

Koirala said so while speaking with journalists at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), before his departure to the United States of America for health checkup, on Friday.

Koirala assured that the nation would rise up progressively.  But, he also expressed his dissatisfaction with the present government’s steps to dismiss the appointments made by the NC-led government.

The immediate past government could not get support from the CPN-UML either for amendment of the Constitution or in other sensitive aspects of the country, said Koirala.

The UML side did not cooperate to maintain the environment for reconstruction process and relief to the earthquake victims as well as approval of the National Reconstruction Authority Bill, he claimed, adding the donor agencies and their representatives were not satisfied with this.

Further, Koirala suggested the government to reconsider the relation with India and to be flexible about demands of the ongoing Tarai-Madhes agitation.

The former Prime Minister is scheduled to stay overnight in Doha, the Capital of Qatar, and to fly to New York on the following day.

Koirala would undergo his follow-up health examination at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York on November 9.

Then, Koirala would visit friends as well as Nepali people living in the United States.
