Suspected kidnappers of teenager held

The police today arrested two persons accused of being involved in the kidnapping of 15-year-old Rajan Chodwang a month ago. One of the accused has been identified as Rakesh Rai while the identity of the other has not been known yet. They were arrested from their rented room at Shantipath, Dharan Municipality-15 at 6.30 am. The search for the other four accused, which include the main suspect Kabiraj Rai, is still on. The gang had abducted Chongwang, a grade IX student of the Summit Secondary Boarding School, on January 22. He was freed after four days following the payment of Rs 10 million as ransom.

Chongwang is the only son of Sherman Chongwang, famous gold trader of Dharan.

The boy recognised the kidnappers after their arrest. The arrest has been taken as a big success of the police. The police suspect that the men are being involved in several criminal activities in the eastern region for long. The incident was the first of its kind in the city.

The police seized some cash, three fake citizenship certificates and two motorcycles from them. Rai told the police that he and two others had taken Rs 2.5 million each and remaining amount was shared among other members of the gang. The police have suspected the involvement of a woman in the abduction.
