Swiss support to reconstruct quake-hit Dolakha monuments

KATHMANDU: Tripurasunadri and Taleju temples of Dolakha disrtict, two historically and archaeologically important monuments damaged by the 2015 Gorkha earthquake, are going to be reconstructed with the support of Swiss government.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) to this effect was signed today between the Department of Archaeology, the Government of Nepal and the Embassy of Switzerland, a statement issued form the Swiss Embassy in Kathmandu informed today.

According to the MoU, Switzerland will reconstruct the two monuments and a heritage cobble stone foot trail connecting the temples.

The support is equivalent to Rs 75 million  (Swiss Franc 700,000), states the statement.

According the statement, the construction works would follow strict archaeological norms and standards.

The project is expected to be complete by December 2018.

Dolakha, the epicentre of the biggest aftershock on May 12, 2015, had suffered huge damages to residential houses and historical and archaeological important monuments.
