Tabacco products claim 50 lives everyday in Nepal

CHITWAN: Everyday around 50 people lose their lives in the country due to consumption of tobacco products, shows a research.

The research result was made public at an interaction on control and regulation of tobacco-related products organised by the Secretariat of the Health Tax Fund under the Ministry of Health in Sauraha of Chitwan today.

According to the Ministry, around 50 per cent people of the total population of the country consume tobacco-related products and 17,000-18,000 people die due to various diseases caused due to the consumption of tobacco-related products including cancer every year.

On the occasion, Secretary at the Ministry, Shanta Bahadur Shrestha, said that the mortality rate due to the consumption of tobacco-related products is 62 per cent in the country.

Similarly, President of the Women, Children and Social Welfare Committee under the Legislature-Parliament, Ranju Kumari Jha, also expressed the view at the function.
