Take Dr KC’s demands seriously, says Bhattarai

Panchthar, January 30

Former prime minister and Naya Shakti Party-Nepal leader Baburam Bhattarai has called on the government to take the demands of agitating Dr Govinda KC seriously.

“The government must be serious and take initiatives to hold talks with Dr KC to address his demands, which are linked to the public,” said Bhattarai, speaking to journalists in Panchthar district headquarters Phidim today.

Bhattarai arrived here as part of his Mechi-Mahakali march starting from Chiwabhanjyang today itself.

Further, conveying his full support to Dr. KC, the former prime minister lamented the government decision to get the National Medical Education bill passed through the Parliament without accommodating the genuine concerns raised by the agitating doctor. “In fact, I had met the speaker well before the bill was tabled in the Parliament and asked him to table the bill after holding talks with Dr KC, but they didn’t heed my suggestion,” he said.

Bhattarai opined that the agenda of development and good governance had taken the back seat due to the vested interests of the political leadership.

“The people must force the present leadership to correct its course, otherwise there will be no option but to support an alternative force to drive away all these ills plaguing the nation,” Bhattarai observed.

Bhattarai’s march started from Chiwabhanjyang and will end in Jhulaghat of Baitadi on February 27.
