Talks to be held with RJP-N on statute amendment, says NCP Co-chair Dahal

Kathmandu, June 10

Chair of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Pushpa Kamal Dahal today said that his party had held one round of negotiation with Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal on issues of constitution amendment and would hold further rounds of negotiation with the party.

RJP-N leader Rajendra Mahato said his party held talks with the ruling NCP (NCP) a few weeks ago, but the ruling party had not held further rounds of negotiation with his party.

“We sought the ruling party’s commitment on constitution amendment when it asked us to join the government,” Mahato added.

The RJP-N leader said that the ruling party and the government must express firm commitment to constitution amendment.

“People of Madhes hit the streets for six months with genuine demands that need to be addressed,” he said and added that the government must clarify its position on constitution amendment.

Mahato also said that the RJP-N was conscious that it should not fall prey to empty assurances by the ruling party and the government.

He said his party would discuss issues of the constitution at the negotiating table. Revision of provincial boundaries is one of the key demands of the RJP-N.
