KATHMANDU, MAY 11
Top amateur golfer Subash Tamang opened up twostroke lead over No 1 pro Bhuwan Nagarkoti after the third round of the Surya Nepal NPGA Tour Championship here at the par-72 Gokarna Golf Club today.
Tamang carded three-under 69 to post the 54-hole total of 15-under 201 to remain at the top of the leaderboard for the third straight day of the seventh event under the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2021-22. Nagarkoti, who had earned a share of lead with Tamang after the second round, returned a card of one-under 71 to drop down to second place at 13-under 203.
The 13th South Asian Games double gold medallist, Tamang took the turn at one-under 35 and carded two-under 34 on the back nine. He faced a bogey on the second before carding birdies on the third and sixth holes.
Tamang then carded five birdies on the back nine, saving shots on the 10th, 11th, 12th, 15th and 16th but he was undone by a double bogey on the 14th and a bogey on the last hole.
Nagarkoti carded birdies on the third and seventh holes before facing a bogey on the next as he took the turn at one-under 35. He saved shots on the 11th and 12th holes but went on to suffer a double bogey on the 16th and was forced to finish the back nine at even-par 36.
Sukra Bahadur Rai moved up to third at eight-under 208 after he carded one-un-der 71, while Rabi Khadka (72) was fourth at six-under 210. Young amateur golfer Sadbhav Acharya played a round of three-over 75 and was fifth at four-under 68, one stroke ahead of pro Dinesh Prajapati (73). Four pros, Niraj Tamang (70), Jayaram Shrestha (72), Dhana Bahadur Thapa (72) and Ramesh Adhikari (79) shared the seventh position at evenpar 216.
A total of 32 pros and 12 amateurs are taking part in the tournament, organised by the Nepal PGA under the sponsorship of Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd. Out of the cash purse of Rs 775,000, top three pros will receive Rs 135,000, Rs 88,000 and Rs 65,000 respectively.
