Tanahun power project construction in full swing

Construction works of Tanahun Hydroelectricity Project is in full swing at Benipatan of Tanahun district.
The project has the potential to generate 140 megawatts. Construction of powerhouse, tunnel and transmission line are under way.
Deputy Manager Bidur Adhikari of the project said Chinese company Sinohydro had taken the responsibility for constructing the powerhouse and tunnel under package 2. He informed that the transmission line with 220 KVA double circuits from Damauli to Bharatpur was under way. “Detailed design and survey for the same is making headway,” he added.
According to the project, re-tender was called off after the contract agreement with the Italian Company-CMC for construction of dam was cancelled under package 1. The project further informed the Italian consultants were preparing to initiate works on environment and social development.
Project manager Pradip Kumar Thike said the test audit of tunnel, entry way, residential areas, substation of 33/11 KV, motorable bridge over the Seti River, blacktopping from Chapaghat to Patan was over. He said the project would be constructed with Rs 50 billion. Asian Development Bank will spend Rs 15 billion, Japan International Cooperation Agency will invest Rs 18 billion, European Investment Bank will invest Rs eight billion and Nepal Government will invest Rs nine billion for the project.
