Tarai stir probe panel seeks more time

Saying that investigations cannot be completed within the given time frame, the Madhes Incident Probe Commission (MIPC) today said it needs more time to complete its work.
Addressing a press conference here, MIPC chairperson Khilraj Regmi said the investigations cannot be completed within the given deadline due to some technical problems.
On May 25, the government had formed the MIPC to probe incidents that occurred during the Mahdes agitation in Morang, Sunsari, Saptari, Rautahat, Siraha, Dhanusha, Mahottari, Sarlahi, Bara and Parsa districts. It had asked the panel to submit a report by August 8.
The MIPC has gathered information on the agitation after making field visits to Bara, Rautahat, Dhanusha, Mahottari, Siraha and Sarlahi districts and is currently compiling the data, Regmi said.The MIPC established its office in Biratnagar on July 21.
The commission has collected data on the loss of lives and property during the agitation from the home ministry, police offices, local administration offices and security bodies.
