Tatopani protest withdrawn
Sindhupalchowk, August 1:
Protest programmes at the Tatopani area were withdrawn today after the government agreed to provide a compensation of Rs 1 million to the family of Tara Devi Tamang of Tatopani-4.
The agreement was reached after talks participated by local residents, Joint Secretary of Home Ministry Hari Prasad Nepal, Chief District Officer (CDO) Jeewan Prasad Oli, DSP of District Police Office, Mahendra Pokharel and local party leaders.
According to the agreement, the government will provide compensation of Rs 1 million, within 15 days, to the family of Tara Devi Tamang of Tatopani-4, who was killed when Armed Police Force (APF) personnel opened fire on July 30, CDO Oli said.
A five-member committee chaired by chief of Immigration Office, Kamal Dev Yogi, has been formed to investigate the locals’ accusation that DSP Gyan Prasad Bhurtel of APF and police inspector of Border Police Office Jagat Bahadur Karki committed irregularity in the cash provided by the Chinese side for the treatment of Kaji Tamang and Khadga Bahadur Shrestha who were hit by a Chinese vehicle. The committee will also interrogate the Chinese side and submit its report.
According to RSS the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has begun investigation into the death of Tara Tamang. A team of two NHRC officers left for Tatopani on Tuesday.
