A Chitwan school teacher receives goods as a part of his pay.

Hom Bahadur Dura, a teacher at Rastriya Primary School located at Ayodhyapuri VDC 9 in Chitwan receives his monthly salary of Rs 2,000, part cash, part available goods — including chicken and grains! “I accept whatever I am offered,” Dura told The Himalayan Times.

Another teacher said he had been teaching students of three classes by himself, sometimes by merging the three. The school building too resembles a cowshed and is devoid of any furniture.
