Temporary classrooms at quake-hit Gorkha school

MASYAL, GORKHA: Students in Dallam Higher Secondary School in Masyal of Gorkha have resumed their classes at newly constructed temporary classrooms since Monday.

For last 10 days, they were studying in the open as the school building was destroyed by the April 25 earthquake.

According to the school principal Shiva Prasad Bhatta, 12 temporary classrooms were built by Nepal Army and Nepal Police personnel as well as cadres of student unions.

Materials like bamboo, timber, wood and corrugated sheets from the damaged buildings have been used in the shanties.

With the new buildings, the problem of running classes during the monsoon has been solved for now, informed Bhatta.

A student union leader Shekhar Gautam informed that 30 teams of students were deployed to build temporary classrooms at the quake-hit schools.

They have already spent 20 days in volunteering and the process is ongoing, he added.

However, many schools in remote areas of Gorkha lack arrangements to resume classes.
