KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 24

Nepal Police has given farewell to temporary police personnel recruited for the November 20 election at a function organised at City Police Office, Bhrikutimandap.

With the completion of elections to the House of Representatives and Provincial Assemblies, as many as 115,000 temporary police personnel who were recruited in mid-October have been dismissed across the country.

The government calls for youths to join the temporary police force every five years during election.

A large number of youths apply for the post. Temporary police received salary amount of one-and-a-half months equivalent to the salary of head constable, including other allowances.

The amount they received ranges from Rs 40,000 to Rs 45,000, as per the temporary police personnel.

During the election period, a large number of people apply for the post of temporary police, which shows the state of unemployment in the country. Youths aspiring to join the police force in future also join the temporary police force hoping this will help them secure the job in the future.

Similarly, the certificate received upon serving as the temporary police will support those who want to go to foreign countries to work as security guards.

The temporary police requires a minimum education level of Grade X. However, majority of the applicants for the post are Bachelor level graduates or high school graduates.
