Temporary teachers lock out DEOs nationwide
Kathmandu, November 1:
The temporary teachers today locked out all the District Education Offices (DEOs) throughout the nation.
The DEOs were locked as per the programme of the Temporary Teachers’ Struggle Committee to pressurise the government to meet their demands at the earliest.
A report from Dhankuta said, temporary teachers padlocked the DEO and staged a sit-in. Classes in most of the government schools were affected, as the temporary teachers came to the district headquarters.
Official works in the Mahottari DEO were affected after the teachers padlocked it. The teachers also staged a sit-in in front of the DEO.
Most of the temporary teachers were present in the protest programme in Bara, said Rabindra Giri, district coordinator of the Temporary Teachers’ Struggle Committee. There are 320 temporary teachers in Bara.
In Taplejung, the teachers prevented DEO staffers from entering into the office.
A report from Ramechhap said around 300 temporary teachers of the district staged a sit-in in front of the DEO gate, after padlocking the office, said Binod Subedi, chairman of the Ramechhap committee.
Similar protests were held in Charikot, too. Further protest programmes will be launched in the district to pressurise the government, said Dolakha chairman of the teachers’ committee.
