Term expires, panel never began work
Nepalgunj, April 22:
The tenure of the Freed Kamaiyas Resettlement Committee, formed by the government to distribute land to the ex-Kamaiyas, expired recently, interestingly, without starting its job.
The government had formed the panel consisting of representatives of political parties under the coordination of Local Development Officer (LDO) Krishna Chandra Ghimire seven months ago and authorised it to complete its job within mid-April.
The committee was given the task of distributing land to 1,600 freed Kamaiyas. However, the work has not yet been initiated, LDO Ghimire said.
Plots of land could not be distributed due to some technical reasons, Ghimire said, adding that the task was also delayed as the Land Reforms Office was still working to verify the tenant farmers.
Sources, however, said the task was delayed due to Maoist intervention.
The committee had earlier said that it would distribute plots of land to former Kamaiyas in Kachanapur, Rajhena and Kohalpur of Banke district in a phased manner.
The source also said that the task of distribution of land was delayed due to lack of coordination among political parties.
Some political parties are saying that the task should begin from the city areas, while others say it should start from the rural areas.
