DHANKUTA, SEPTEMBER 13
Four months into the new academic session, and students are yet to receive textbooks in Dhankuta.
The new academic session kicked off in community schools almost four months ago. However, students of basic and secondary levels have not got the textbooks.
Eighth grader Suresh Rai of Golkhadi Secondary School complained that he was yet to get the textbooks. "We are yet to get full sets of textbooks.
This has caused confusion among us," he said.
Ninth grader Sudiksha Rai of the same school said he was yet to get textbooks of some subjects. "Due to shortage of books, I cannot do my homework," he bemoaned.
Head teacher Harilal Sah said more than half of the students had not got textbooks.
According to Sah, textbooks had not arrived though the local level had made the payment. "Textbooks of grades IV, VI, VII and IX are hard to get as the curriculum of these grades has changed," he added. School Management Committee Chairman Dharma Dhwoj Rai said textbook shortage had led to erosion of people's trust in the government.
Headteacher Damodar Mishra of Gokundeswor Bal Mandir said textbook shortage had hit students of the community schools across the district. Meanwhile, Education Development and Coordination Unit Dhankuta, however, said the office had not received any complaint about textbook shortage. The unit's head Mohan Rai said he would do the needful to provide textbooks. Dhankuta has 190 basic and 94 secondary community schools.
