Dhangadhi, May 28:
Sounding the slogan of “Reformation of the State through peace, new constitution and movement against all kinds of differences”, the third national convention of the Tharu Students’ Society (TSS) kicked off today at Dhangadhi in Kailali district. Prior to the main convention, a procession with different Tharu cultural dances and tableaus moved around the town. Inaugurating the programme, the vice-chairman of the National Assembly, Ramprit Paswan, said that in order to sort out all burning issues in the country reconciliation among the King, political parties and the civil society was a must. At the same time, Paswan accused the state of not being serious towards the problems of over 1.5 millions of Tharu people in the country. The state has discriminated against the community, he added. In case the country splits everything will collapse, so it was high time for each and every Nepali to unite, Paswan remarked. No official of any wing of the local authority was present on the occasion. The organisers denounced the absence of the officials. A new national committee of the TSS would be formed, said Chandra Narayan Chaudhary, chairman of the programme.
